London Hit Comedy Boeing-Boeing Eyes Broadway Run

The hit West End revival of Boeing-Boeing, a 1962 comedy by Marc Camoletti and Beverley Cross, is aiming for a Broadway run this season, according to Variety. A casting notice sets a March 2008 start date for rehearsals, though no theater has been booked. Matthew Warchus directed the London production at the Comedy Theatre, which opened in February. American TV star Rhea Perlman is currently starring in the show, along with Neil Stuke, Kevin McNally, Doon Mackichan, Amy Nuttall and Elena Roger, the Argentinian actress who played the title role in the London revival of Evita.

Boeing-Boeing centers on a philandering Parisian playboy who has devised a sophisticated timetable with his housekeeper to organize his simultaneous affairs with three airline stewardesses; one Italian, one German and one American. They each work for different airlines and spend the night at his apartment whenever they stop over. Each believes she is the only one, but the subterfuge is threatened due to a change of flight schedule for one of the girlfriends and the arrival of an old friend who wants to stay at the apartment for a day or two.

The show ran for only 23 performances at Broadway's Cort Theatre in 1965, but the original London run played over 2,000 perfs on the West End.

The Broadway revival of Boeing-Boeing will be produced by the same team backing the London production: Sonia Friedman Productions, Act Productions., Matthew Byam Shaw, Robert Bartner and Bob Boyett.
